Composition Type began in 1978 in Playa del Rey, California. High quality typesetting for the annual report industry was the foundation for the start of our business.

Incorporation came in 1980 along with diversification into advertising and publication typography.

1985 saw some exciting times of growth with the installation of a new typesetting system and twin Agfa 8400 imagesetters. Wow, we thought we were in heaven, more speed, higher quality type and vertical rules.

1986 saw the addition of Marina Stats, a complete camera graphics company. The combination of the two businesses allowed us to offer our clients a complete one stop graphics facility.

In 1989 Composition Type installed two of the first 2400 dpi postscript imagesetters sold by Agfa in California. At the same time installing our first two Macintosh computers and entering the desktop publishing world.

In April of 1992 we moved to Corporate Point in Culver City. It’s not easy to double your size and move all your equipment in one weekend, but somehow we did without interruptions to our customers.

With the demand for film output increasing, in 1994 we installed an Agfa SelectSet 5000. This precision drum film imagesetter delivers the accuracy required for quality 4-color film output.

The cornerstone of our business in 1978 remains with us today: “Quality and Service”. Our belief in both has led Composition Type to numerous awards: Type Directors Club, AIGA, Advertising Club of Los Angeles and The Mead Papers Annual Report Show.

None of what we have accomplished over the years would have been possible without two important factors. (1) our hard working staff, whom individually have over 25 years experience in graphic arts and (2) a group of fabulous, loyal clients. We thank you.
